Giancarlo Stanton on pace to hit 63 home runs
Now that the Miami Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton has hit an (obviously) Major League Baseball Leading 53 home runs, it’s impossible not to think about 60 or more and even more difficult not to constantly be talking about him and rooting for him. It’s really no surprise. Anyone who watches baseball is knows that Stanton probably could have hit this many home runs in seasons past. Injuries have derailed the six foot six inch, 245 pound slugger almost each year of his career.  In his eight years in the big leagues the most games Stanton has ever played in in a […]

How can we not want to root for Giancarlo Stanton?

Max Scherzer, strikeouts 1
A brief history of pitchers with 20 strikeout games Strikeouts are sexy. Well at least according to the Washington Nationals’ star pitcher Max Scherzer. He would know too. On Wednesday night Scherzer struck out 20 Detroit Tigers during a nine-inning game. “Tonight, at the end of the night, was a special night,” Scherzer said. “Because, I mean, the strikeouts are sexy. And to be able to punch out 20 — it’s sexy.” He tied the MLB record for most K’s in a nine-inning game. The only other people to do so are Roger “The Rocket” Clemens, who accomplished the feat […]

Strikeouts are Sexy and Scherzer knows it!

bryce harper,
Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals is easily the front runner for the National League MVP award. He furthered his case to take home the award for the 2015 season on Thursday when the Nationals took on the Atlanta Braves. He had quite the unusual batting line after the Washington Nationals annihilated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 15-1. His batting line went a bit like this no at-bats, no hits, four walks, four runs scored and four RBI.  Harper saw 20 pitches during his four plate appearances and didn’t swing at a single pitch, according to ESPN. It was […]

On this day in 1977 in MLB history, my all-time favorite player (that’s played in my lifetime), Dennis Eckersley, pitched a no-hitter for the Cleveland Indians who defeated the California Angels and pitcher Frank Tanana by a score of 1-0.  As you all probably know Eck went on to become one of the greatest closers of all-time with the Oakland Athletics but he started his career as a starter and threw a no-hitter for Cleveland on May 30, 1977. He is now in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Now my trivia question for you is this …..  Who was […]

On this day in MLB history 1977 … Can you ...

In a word the answer to the question is ABSOLUTELY. Pete Rose’s lifetime ban from Major League Baseball and consequently his eligibility for the National Baseball Hall of Fame should be reconsidered. I’ve always wanted to write a piece on Pete Rose. He’s a complicated character. His exploits are even more complicated and people’s opinions of him range from one end of the spectrum to the other and everywhere in between. He’s hated, he’s beloved, he’s looked down upon, he’s respected. It’s one of baseball’s strangest and most debatable stories. It’s been 25 years. It really is time to take […]

According to the A’s Twitter account the A’s will be wearing 1914 throwback jerseys Saturday when they play the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field to commemorate the 1914 World Series in which the “Miracle Braves” (they were the Boston Braves at the time, moved to Milwaukee in the early 50’s and to Atlanta in the 60’s) swept the thought to be unbeatable Philadelphia Athletics. Personally, I love the old uni’s. Sure they are a bit bland but the classic stirrup socks always get me! I am the socks girl after all! Plus, the history of the A’s back in Philly […]

The Colorado Rockies’ Brandon Barnes hit his second inside the park home run in June on Saturday. It was also his second in the last ten days! It prompted me to look up some inside the park home run statistics. Ty Cobb holds the record American League record for most inside the park home runs in a season with nine in 1909. The National League/Major League record for most […]
