Minor League deal

Oakland Athletics reunite with Chris Carter
The Oakland Athletics have reunited with an old friend, first baseman Chris Carter.  The Oakland Athletics announced Friday that they have signed Carter to a minor league deal and assigned him to Triple-A Nashville. Carter was drafted in the 15th round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He was eventually traded to the Oakland Athletics along with Brett Anderson, Aaron Cunningham, Dana Eveland, Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith for Dan Haren and Connor Robertson in 2007. Carter made his debut in August of 2010 with the Athletics but didn’t exceed his rookie limits in 2012. He played in 67 games for the A’s […]

Bartolo Colon signs with Twins
Go forth and rejoice! Everybody’s favorite Big Sexy pitcher is back in the game.  After being designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves on June 29, many people wondered if Bartolo Colon would ever play in the big leagues again and everyone was in mourning — especially me! I always used the hashtag #Team Bartolo during the 2013 season when he should have won the Cy Young at age 40 and ever since!!  The #Braves today designated RHP Bartolo Colón for assignment and selected the contract of LHP Rex Brothers from Triple-A @GwinnettBraves. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) June 29, 2017 […]

ICYMI: Bartolo is BACK!

Only my team, only my team would be the ones stupid enough to give Barry Zito a chance. The Oakland Athletics have signed Zito to a minor league deal that comes with an invite to big league spring training. Blast from the past: Barry Zito is going to sign a minor-league deal with the #Athletics and come to spring camp. — Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) February 17, 2015 I always say to have faith in our GM Billy Beane but this is simply unbelievable! This is my worst nightmare come to life! The only thing worse would be Daric Barton finding […]

Barry Zito to the A’s?! Nooooooooooooo!

Dontrelle Willis, that’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile. Well, he’s hoping you’ll be hearing it more often in the very near future. Nicknamed the D-Train, the Oakland, CA native has reportedly signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that comes with an invitation to big league spring training. Willis, now 33, was once on of Major League Baseball’s brightest young stars. He was Rookie of the Year in 2003. He was also elected to the National League All-Star team and took home a World Championship ring with the 2003 World Champion Florida Marlins. He went 14-6 […]

Dontrelle Willis to attempt a comeback with Brewers

Utility infielder Nick Punto was recently released by the Oakland Athletics which is very uncharacteristic of the team. The A’s decided to eat the $2.75 million that they still owed Punto. That’s something the A’s do not usually do and just last season they deemed him worthy of a two-year contract. The move was also odd as Punto did not have a particularly bad season hitting .207 in 73 games with the Athletics. .207 is low, there’s no doubt there but Punto provided decent defense in an otherwise poor middle infield for Oakland. MLB Hot stove
I don’t think that anyone really expected Brad Penny to come back to baseball especially in light of the events of the last year or two. Penny was signed by the Kansas City Royals last winter but was cut from the team at spring training. Later in the season he signed a minor league contract with the Miami Marlins. He eventually made eight pretty disasterous appearances (four of them starts) for the Marlins’ big league club, posting an ERA of 6.58 over 26 innings pitched. Penny’s appearances with the Marlins were his first and last since he pitched for the […]

Brad Penny, back in baseball?
