Oscar Taveras dies in tragic car crash on Sunday Oscar Taveras, a 22-year-old top prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals, was killed in a car accident in his native Dominican Republic on Sunday. Taveras’ girlfriend, Edilia Arvelo, also passed away in the accident. She was only 18 years old.
