Braves weren’t kidding; Serious about winning in new stadium, sign Colon

Team Bartolo moves south to Atlanta! Braves sign Bartolo Colon! *UPDATE: Colon will make $12.5 million in 2017. That’s more than he’s made since he was with the Angels in 2007. **UPDATE #2: See Noah Syndergaard’s reaction to the news of Bartolo’s departure from the Mets at the end of this post. The Atlanta Braves are not kidding around when it comes to their intent on winning in 2017, the year their new stadium will be having its grand opening.  They’ve now made their second signing in two days taking Bartolo Colon off the free agent market. Thursday, the Braves […]

Braves make first free agent signing of the year

The seal has been broken by the Atlanta Braves. They’ve made the first free agent signing of the offseason; R.A. Dickey. The #Braves today agreed to terms with R.A. Dickey (@RADickey43) on a 1-year MLB contract for the 2017 season with a club option for 2018. — Atlanta Braves (@Braves) November 10, 2016 Dickey, who turned 42 on October 29, was a first round draft pick of the Texas Rangers – way back in 1996. He spent a significant amount of time playing for the Rangers, New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays with short stints in Seattle., Milwaukee […]

OTD in Baseball History: Mike Piazza hits most iconic HR of his career

On September 21, 2001 Major League Baseball resumed play after stopping play for 11 days. The terrorists’ attacks of 9/11/01 had left the entire country in shock and the city of New York in complete disarray. The mourning period for the thousands of lives lost that day, now 15 years later, still continues but on a much more mild scale. The first game played in the city New York was between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves at Shea Stadium. The stadium was filled with American flags, mourning people and a still a sense of American pride. The […]

Simmons deal not as beneficial to Angels as it appears

Thursday, the Atlanta Braves sent shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Los Angeles Angels for shortstop Erick Aybar and two of their top pitching prospects in left-hander Sean Newcomb and right-hander Chris Ellis. Newcomb was the organization’s top prospect. Simmons is one of the top defensive shortstops in the league, winning Gold Gloves in 2013 and 2014. He could have easily been the choice in 2015 as well; however, he lost out to San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford. Reportedly, the Braves tried to trade him straight up for one of the New York Mets’ top young pitchers, but the Mets […]

Astros, Mets have improbable, coincidental wins on same day

A pair of highly unusual and coincidental ninth-inning rallies made Sunday somewhat of an anomaly in the everyday scheme of Major League Baseball. The New York Mets and the Houston Astros, who are both currently in first place in the National League East and American League West, respectively, came back to win games in which they were down three runs in the ninth inning with two outs and no runners on base. That may not seem that rare a feat, but it was the first time in Mets franchise history that they had mounted that type of comeback. It was […]

Bryce Harper posts insane batting line vs. Braves

Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals is easily the front runner for the National League MVP award. He furthered his case to take home the award for the 2015 season on Thursday when the Nationals took on the Atlanta Braves. He had quite the unusual batting line after the Washington Nationals annihilated the Atlanta Braves by the score of 15-1. His batting line went a bit like this no at-bats, no hits, four walks, four runs scored and four RBI.  Harper saw 20 pitches during his four plate appearances and didn’t swing at a single pitch, according to ESPN. It was […]

Braves’ RHP Jason Grilli out for season

The Atlanta Braves got lucky when they signed veteran reliever/closer Jason Grilli. The right-hander has a career 4.07 ERA. In 2015 he is having the third best season of his career. ] His numbers have been better this season than the year he made his only All-Star appearance. The Braves took a risk on signing both him and veteran Jim Johnson and they’ve been better for it, at least when Grilli is in the conversation. That is until Saturday. Grilli had posted an ERA of 2.67 in the first half. He’s struck out 45 batters in 33.2 innings and allowed […]

The 3 Point Conversion Sports Lounge-06/06 by FSW Radio 2 | Sports Podcasts

Well I was lucky to be asked to be a guest on Get Witted Sports and 3 Point Conversion Sports Lounge to discuss the Oakland A’s, the Atlanta Braves and Alex Rodriguez, Saturday morning! I’m very grateful for the opportunity for sure and for another learning experience being able to overcome my fear of being live on-air. Honestly, I am fine doing YouTube videos for the most part but there is something about radio/podcasts that just makes me get waaaaay too nervous. I can write about the A’s all day and scream at my camera on my computer but being live […]

And the pine tar debate continues with Will Smith…

As it has in recent years the pitchers and pine tar debate is back. This year it starts with Milwaukee …  So, with Brewers pitcher Will Smith (insert “Fresh Prince” joke here), Major League Baseball moved quickly. Smith was ejected from the game last night for having a foreign substance on his arm during the game. MLB moved so quickly that Smith has already been handed an eight-game suspension, one he intends to appeal.   With the Braves up, the bases loaded and one out in the seventh inning, Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez emerged from the dugout and asked the […]

Could Shelby Miller be this season’s Corey Kluber?

Could Shelby Miller be this year’s surprise pitching star? Perhaps even steal the Cy Young Award away from Kershaw? So far he’s made quite the name for himself in Atlanta. I talked about how he was emerging as the Braves’ new ace and how, in my opinion, the Braves have gotten the better side of the deal when they traded outfielder Jason Heyward to the St. Louis Cardinals for Miller. When the trade first went down it didn’t appear that the Braves were getting the ace that they have gotten. Even though he’d played very well in parts of three seasons […]
