Seven* A’s prospects to play in Arizona Fall League

**Seven Oakland Athletics’ prospects have been named to play in this year’s Arizona Fall League with the A’s affiliate the Mesa Solar Sox.

Four pitchers and three** infielders will represent the Athletics on the Solar Sox, one of six teams in the league. Each team consists of prospects from five big league clubs. They will play alongside prospects from the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians.

The Solar Sox will face off beginning on October 11 with the Glendale Desert Dogs, Peoria Javelinas, Scottsdale Scorpions, Salt River Rafters and the Surprise Saguaros.

The league runs through November 19 when the Arizona Fall League Championship is scheduled. The league also has the Fall Stars Game midway through the short season and this year it will be held on November 5.

Three pitchers and two infielders have been chosen to represent the A’s on the Solar Sox. 25-year-old right-hander Dylan Covey, 23-year-old right-hander Trey Cochran-Gill and most notably 23-year-old right-hander Frankie Montas, who came over from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization in the Josh Reddick and Rich Hill trade will pitch for the Solar Sox.

A’s number one prospect Franklin Barreto, a 20-year-old shortstop and second baseman, will probably see the most action in the infield out of the five prospects. He’ll be joined by another shortstop in 21-year-old Yairo Munoz.

This year is a special one for the Arizona Fall League. Not only is it the 25th Anniversary of the league’s creation, this summer Mike Piazza became the first Arizona Fall League Alumni to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Watching the future of Major League Baseball play in the fall league is always a good time and if you can make it down to Arizona this fall, I certainly recommend it. Who knows? You may even be able to say, “I saw a Hall of Famer play when he was just a kid,” someday.

If you can’t make the trip, check the schedules because the big games like the All-Star Game and the Fall League Championship will be televised as are some of the regular season games  and they are definitely worth watching!
