The race for the American League West crown is going to be complete chaos. There are a couple of other divisions, such as the AL East and the NL Central, that will be close, but no division has three teams as closely bunched as the AL West.
Currently, the Houston Astros sit atop the division. With their come-from-behind ninth-inning rally to defeat the Los Angeles Angels Sunday, they remain just a game and a half above the Texas Rangers. The Rangers defeated the A’s on Sunday by the score of 12-4.
With their heart-breaking loss, the Angels fell to four and a half games back in the AL West. However, with each team having either 15 or 16 games left to play on their regular season schedules, the Angels may be down but they are certainly not out of the race either.
The Mariners and the Athletics will have an impact on this division race regardless of whether they win or lose. Surprisingly, teams like the Mariners and the A’s don’t even have to win games to cause major changes in the standings.
