After recently reading a poll on the end of the 2015 season awards from ESPN’s experts in which 11 of the 14 panelists chose Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch as their candidate for American League Manager of the Year, one of the picks of three “outsiders” really made me stop and think. ESPN’s Christina Kahrl voted for Texas Ranger’s manager Jeff Banister. The more I reflected on it the more I realized that, what appears to be a no-brainer in electing Hinch as AL Manager of the Year, might not really be so clear-cut.
Of course, Hinch appears to be the perfect candidate, taking a team that no one expected to be winners as early as this season and turning them into legitimate contenders. However, Banister – in just his first season as manager – has taken his team and brought them back into contention.
