Yes, it is already that time of year where predictions for the winners of Major League Baseball’s most prestigious awards will be coming at you from every which way. We’ve hit the dog days of August and pretty soon teams will be desperately trying to make a run down the stretch towards the postseason in September.
One of those teams will not be the Oakland Athletics. They’ve had a rough season and are currently sitting where they have been for most of the year, at the bottom of the American League West. With a record of 50-62 they are 11 games behind the first place Houston Astros and general manager Billy Beane has conceded the season, trading his soon to be free agents for a number of talented Minor League prospects.
There have been bright spots for the Athletics in 2015, however, with most of them coming from their 25-year-old ace Sonny Gray. Gray has pitched well enough to get himself into the conversation surrounding the 2015 American League Cy Young Award. Actually he’s done better than that. Gray is currently the front-runner for the coveted award, despite his team’s poor performance.
