The Texas Rangers are currently in fourth place in the AL West, 10.5 games behind the first place Los Angeles Angels and only a half game up from being last in the division. At this point in the season, being in a position like that means that the team is not likely looking towards October but to 2016. The Rangers need to decide now how they want to handle top prospect Joey Gallo, who struggled during part of his month-long stint with Texas and is struggling still in Triple-A.
Do they bring him back up now to gain more big league experience or give him some more time in the minors to refine his swing which has been suffering? It’s a tough call. Calling him up would give him valuable experience, but it would also signify Texas waving the white flag for the 2015 season, which it doesn’t appear they are ready to do despite their position.
