The Seattle Mariners were considered the team to beat heading into the 2015 season but they have not lived up to their potential. Robinson Cano has struggled, due to what we recently learned are stomach issues that have been bothering him since last August. In September of last year his numbers began to drop and he is currently having the worst season of his entire career.
Kyle Seager, who the Mariners signed for the next seven years, has under performed as have quite a few other players. Fernando Rodney who led the league in saves last season with 45, has struggled enough to have been removed from his closing role. With the exception of slugger Nelson Cruz and injuries to their starting staff, the Mariners have not been performing to their potential. This sometimes happens with teams and no one really knows why.
The Mariners have a number of issues that need fixing, too many to be worked out by the trade deadline on July 31. They need to turn their attention to winning and being healthy in 2016 and become trade deadline sellers. They have plenty of trade chips to work with and should be able to get a good return from each.
