Center fielder Denard Span has finally rejoined the Washington Nationals. As of Sunday morning, Span has been penciled in to lead-off and play center for the team, as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday afternoon.
Although no lineup is official until it is in the hands of the umpire, the Nationals have already made the corresponding move of sending down outfielder Michael Taylor to Triple-A Syracuse.
Span had surgery on his right core muscle back on March 9 and has been on the disabled list these first two weeks of the season. He’s played in three rehab game between Class A Hagerstown and Double-A Harrisburg. In those three games Span was 5-12 with a home run. It does appear he is ready to rejoin the Nats.
