Mets place closer Jenrry Mejia on the disabled list

The New York Mets had another pitcher go down on Monday. First it was reliever Josh Edgin and then it was starter Zack Wheeler, both to Tommy John surgery.

Luckily for New York, the injury to closer Jenrry Mejia may have put him on the disabled list, however it doesn’t appear to be any kind tear of the ulnar collateral ligament.

Monday Mejia experienced pain and stiffness in his right elbow. He was sent back to New York on Tuesday morning to be examined by team doctors.

Mejia was examined by David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Inflammation was discovered in his elbow and he recieved a cortisone shot. He will be put on the disabled list retroactive to Sunday.

To find out more about who will take over for Mejia and when he may return use the link below to read this post in full on Baseball Hot Corner:

Tough break. Mets having a lot of bad luck with this pitching staff. It’s gonna make it a lot harder for them to compete in what already is a tough division.
