How long will Masahiro Tanaka’s success last?

New York Yankees’ ace Masahiro Tanaka made his much anticipated spring debut Thursday. It was what the Yankees had hoped for. It was beautiful. It was also perfect.

Tanaka retired each of the six batters he faced while pitching the first two innings for the Yankees against the Atlanta Braves.

Tanaka recorded two strikeouts. He got Freddie Freeman looking at a called third-strike to end the first-inning and Jonny Gomes swinging to start the second.

He induced four routine ground-outs, sending Andrelton Simmons, Alberto Callaspo, Christian Bethancourt and Chris Johnson all back to the bench.

Not bad for a guy who partially tore his ulnar collateral ligament last July, decided against surgery and returned to make two September starts for his non-playoff bound team.
