Brewers’ catcher Jonathan Lucroy attends the State of the Union

Milwaukee Brewers’ All-Star catcher Jonathan Lucroy had the honor of attending Tuesday night’s State of the Union address by President Barack Obama.

He was a guest of Republican Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin.

Senator Johnson invited Lucroy not because of his baseball accomplishments but because of how he’s used his status as a baseball player to help the state of Wisconsin and the city of Milwaukee, as well as veterans returning from the war.

“Mr. Lucroy, the All-Star catcher for the Milwaukee Brewers, has become a hero to Wisconsin sports fans with his excellent performance on the field,” Johnson said. “But to me, he is an even bigger hero off the field: He is using his baseball fame to highlight some great Wisconsin charities.”
