Yankees, Braves make a New Year’s Day deal

The New York Yankees and the Atlanta Braves did a little New Year’s Day business on Thursday while everyone else was still sleeping off their New Year’s Eve festivities.

The Yankees dealt one of their (former?) top pitching prospects, Manny Banuelos, to the Braves for two relief pitchers, David Carpenter and Chasen Shreve.

Using the word “former” to describe Banuelos seems extreme. He’s a 23-year-old who had Tommy John surgery in 2012 and also missed all of 2013 with some setbacks with his recovery. However, it appears that when he’s healthy he’s a definite prospect.
