Veteran MLB umpire Dale Scott came out as being gay in an interview on Monday. He also says that he is now married to his partner of 28 years.
I don’t really have time to write the full story here at the moment but I felt it was certainly an event that deserved to be acknowledged and celebrated.
It’s only been a small number so far but more and more athletes and other people who work in professional sports have been able to come out. The acceptance of homosexuals in professional sports has become more common since Michael Sam came out as gay prior to last year’s NFL draft.
Regardless of how it began, no one in any vocation should have to hide who they truly are. So to acknowlege Scott’s coming out here’s the article that was printed on ESPN.com:
