Will Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon be able to break the Chicago Cubs’ curse?

Chicago Cubs’ general manager Theo Epstein is already a curse breaker. He broke the “Curse of the Bambino” when he teamed up with manager Terry Francona to lead the Boston Red Sox to a World Series victory in 2004. Now teamed up with manager Joe Maddon, can they break the Cubs curse?

Maddon finished as Epstein’s runner up to Francona for the job with the Red Sox.ย Things are different now.

Epstein is with the Cubs and he’s built quite a team of young players with more on the horizon. Maddon spent the last nine seasons leading the Tampa Bay Rays to winning records six times.ย

Now the two men are, together, leading the Cubs’ charge to break their century long “Curse of the Billy Goat” with a World Series victory in 2015. Here are five reasons why the curse may be broken even sooner than people think.

  • Its Going 2 Take Joe Maddon a about 2 Season But I Bet Cubs Will Get 2 The World Series, But Cubs Must Spend the money 2 Get Joe Maddon Some pitching

It appears that actually is the Cubs plan. They are looking into Scherzer and Lester – and may even go for Hamels who despite having a 9-9 record last season actually put up a career low ERA. That of course will depend upon Hamels updated list of teams he is willing to be traded to. The Cubs now being on that list is quite possible – no guarantees though! Thanks for the comment. I also agree that it probably will take a couple seasons … but it IS fun to make BOLD predictions! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • They are nowhere near good enough . I think there is way too much optimism being shown because of the Royals and their achievements . Look at the Cubs’ record over the past five seasons and the ineptitude shown . There is no guarantee even with Joe Maddon joining the staff this team becomes that impact-ful much less , has that great a turnaround .

Thanks for your comment. I am well aware of their record over the past five seasons. I’m also aware that it won’t likely be their year in 2015 but it isn’t impossible especially since the Cubs have the intention of spending money on starting pitching. You get all those young hitters into the lineup with consistancy and you could end up with some pretty ridiculous (-ly good) offensive stats. I’m not saying that Maddon is the end all answer but I do think he gives the Cubs an advantage to grow more quickly into their intended roles than Renteria. But that’s just IMO. Theo Epstein’s good. He’s got a chance to break another curse at somepoint with this team. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • The Ricketts’ family have spent more money refurbishing Wrigley Field than they have on the team . Is there anything else that needs to be acknowledged or known ? All of his crap about buying to Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon is not unlike believing Sarah Palin and John McCain were were shoe-ins to win the Presidency in 2008 . Have you looked at Esptein and GM Jed Hoyer’s record since they joined the Cubs and their drafting and transactions ? http://baseball-reference.com/games/head2head.cgi?teams=CHC&from=2009&to=2014&submit=Submit ……….. Wow. You have some strong feelings about this. I’ll just leave you to those. I have enough problems with my own team to worry about! Thanks again for reading.
