Since 1992 the MLB Players Choice Awards have been awards given to by the players to their peers.
Each Major League Baseball player who belongs to the MLB Players Association has a chance to vote for each of the 10 award categories.
While most of the categories look familiar the “Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award” may not.
The “Man of the Year Award” was instituted in 1997 and in 2000 was renamed the “Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award” after former executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association.
It goes to the player who gives outstanding performances both on the field and in the community.
Clayton Kershaw was this year’s winner of the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award. The also recieved he honors of being he National League’s Outstanding Pitcher and the Player of the Year.
He became the first player to win three Players Choice Awards for the same season. He also ook home the Outstanding Pitcher Award (like the N.L Cy Young Award he’s likely to get this year) three out of the past four years.
