Well, this news just came through on the A’s post game show – Josh Donaldson, the starting third baseman for the American League All-Star team, will also take part against fellow All-Star and teammate, last year’s Home Run Derby Champion, A’s outfielder Yoenis Cespedes in the 2014 Home Run Derby!

This is so great! What a team for the American League – Joey Bats (Toronto’s Jose Bautista) as team captain, Cespedes, Donaldson aka the Bringer of Rain, Twins second baseman Brian Dozier and Orioles outfielder Adam Jones!

For the National League it will be Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki as captain, Marlins’ outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, Reds’ third baseman Todd Frazier, Dodger’s outfielder Yasiel Puig and Tulo’s teammate Justin Morneau was added as the fifth and final member of the NL Home Run Derby Team.

So there are two A’s and two Rockies which is an interesting twist to the derby this year, especially since Cespedes is the reigning champ! Also of note is that Morneau, who lost out on the final NL vote to the All-Star game to Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and who was also a long time member of the Twins before signing with Colorado – will be able to go to participate in the All-Star game festivities in the city where he played for so many years.

The remaining spot on the American League All-Star team was won by Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale!

I hope that both Cespedes and Donaldson will bring the rain to Target Field!! Wow! I really did not see this coming! The A’s have seven All-Stars and two in the Home Run Derby. All I have to say is that it is about time!!

Yes, I know that people worry about players who participate in the HR Derby not producing after the break but I’m an optimist when it comes to baseball (ha! most of the time) so I think it will all be fine …. I just think it is great that the A’s players are finally getting the recognition that they have deserved for the last few years! Let’s Go Oakland! 😀
