The Colorado Rockies’ third baseman Nolan Arenado was injured Friday night sliding into second base. If his hit been a few inches higher he would have been trotting happily around the bases instead of hoping that his now broken finger will not need to be surgically repaired.
Arenado was the talk of the beginning of the season breaking teammate Michael Cuyddyer‘s Rockies record hitting streak, set just last season at 27 straight games, with a hitting streak of 28 games. During the streak he hit .360/.383/.568 with 40 hits. Since he as been almost as hot, not quite as hot as his teammate Troy Tulowitzki, who has been putting up unbelievable numbers in 2014. Nonetheless he will be missed greatly by the Rockies until he recovers from the mallet fracture he suffered to his left middle finger.
